Michelle is a Dublin-based artist whose practice currently encompasses painting abstract landscapes and pet portraits. Working primarily in acrylics, she is inspired by the quiet beauty of everyday life. Her landscapes explore the shifting light and skies from sunrise to sunset, and reflect an appreciation for the simple moments in life. She aims to evoke a sense of calm, joy and connection through her art. Michelle also paints pet portraits and finds them incredibly rewarding to work on, as they hold such personal meaning for people.
She studied Fine Art at DIT Dublin and graduated in 1996 with a BA in Painting. This is where her early interest in sketching and painting developed into a deeper practice. Her work centered around the human anatomy and the female form, exploring themes of fertility and vulnerability – see life studies below.
After college she pursued a career in graphic design as the practical need to earn a living took over. She has since worked across brand identity, print, publishing and digital media. This experience brings a strong sense of balance, clarity and visual storytelling to her work. In 2021, following redundancy, she started her own graphic design business called Shell Space.
Michelle always dreamed of returning to painting, but life and work took priority. After a period of great personal loss, the slower pace of life during Covid allowed her to reconnect with painting. She now works from her garden studio where she is developing her practice further.
